Today when I started my day in office, I found that some applications we not working as they used to be. And when tried to start them, I got an error dialog box with a message "This operation has been restricted due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator.". It seems that IT dept has made some restrictions for applications.

Resolution: In order to resolve this issue, there are two approaches:
a. Registry Fix: In this approach, you have to make some changes in the Registry of your system. Follow the below steps:
Step 1: Click on Start and Run and type "regedit" to open Registry Editor.

Step 2: Now click on HEKY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Windows > Policies > Explorer. There you will find a directory named "DisallowRun". If you click on this directory, you will be presented with list of applications which are not allowed to run on your system.

Step3: To allow these applications to run, either delete the entire DisallowRun directory or delete the application record from the list.

Step 4: This doesn't require system reboot and you should be able to run the application successfully.

b. Updating Group policies: First approach should resolve the issue, but if the issue still persists then we have a plan B with us. Follow the below steps:
Step 1: Click on Start and Run and type "group policy" to open Group Policy Editor.

Step 3: Double click on "Don't run specified Windows application" property and delete if any group policy is defined otherwise it should be "Not Configured".

I'm sure the issue should be resolved using any of the above mentioned approaches and enjoy the application, restricted by adminstrators. :)
